When should my child see an emergency dentist?

If your child complains of dental pain, facial swelling, or a fever, they may have an infected tooth. Seek treatment for an infected tooth right away, as the condition will not resolve on its own. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the jaw, face, or other parts of the body, so prompt care is essential for your child's health and comfort.

Other emergency situations may include a broken or knocked-out tooth. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, gently rinse it with water without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket or keep it in a cup of milk. Acting within the first hour gives the best chance of saving the tooth.

For a broken tooth, rinse your child's mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, and save any fragments you can find.
