What happens during phase two of orthodontic treatment?

Phase two of orthodontic treatment may be a continuation for patients who have completed phase one, or it may be a child's first encounter with orthodontic treatment.

During phase two, we focus on finalizing tooth and bite alignment for patients who completed phase one, which focused on early bite and tooth correction in severe cases. Phase two mainly involves braces or clear aligners, with minimal bite correction and alignment. It typically takes place when kids reach ages 12 to 14.

Not every child needs phase one orthodontic treatment, or early intervention. So this may be the first orthodontic treatment your child has had.

Can My Child Get Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners work well for most teens, unless they have complex bite concerns. Compliance is the key when it comes to wearing clear aligners, and your teen will need to wear them for at least 20 to 22 hours per day.

We offer Invisalign clear aligners at our San Jose and Mountain View clinics, and our dentists would be happy to determine whether clear aligners are suitable for your child during an evaluation.
